Web Registration Success Tips
Student Registration Status
The Registration Status will show key items that will affect registration:
1.) Time-Ticket:
Undergraduate students may register once their time-ticket is active, as long as they have also secured the four-digit “Registration PIN” from their advisor.
Graduate students will be able to register as soon as their time-ticket becomes active; there is no “registration pin” for graduate students.
The time ticket is based on:
- earned credit hours toward graduation within class or level
- matriculation level . . . undergraduate / graduate
- non-degree students will NOT have Web registration privileges
2.) Hold information:
Any outstanding obligations to SUNY Cortland will prevent registration. You will need to contact the agency or office that has placed the hold for clearance information.
3.) Academic & Curriculum Information:
Degree, major, academic standing, student status, and class year are identified for students to verify, and/or correct. Contact your department, the Registrar’s Office or Office of Graduate Studies for assistance in correcting any academic profile information.
Registration PIN
For Undergraduates, the advisor will play a key role in the advisement of their student advisees, and in the distribution of the registration pin.
At the conclusion of the advisement meeting, undergraduate students will receive their “registration pin” to gain access to the Web. Once their time-ticket is active the registration process can begin. Advisors will receive the registration pin:
- Electronically on “Web for Faculty” under “Advisee contact” both time-ticket and registration pin will be identified.
- “Hard copy” will be distributed in the departments. STUDENT PIN INFORMATION CANNOT BE PUBLICALLY DISPLAYED IN ANY WAY. THIS IS A VIOLATION OF THE BUCKLEY AMENDMENT AND “FERPA POLICY.”
- There are no “Registration PINs” for Graduate Students. Registration may begin once the time-ticket is active.
Conflict Resolution
Academic Department Offices are the “primary” contact for any student encountering obstacles while registering. The departments will also have the responsibility to monitor course availability. With Department Chair authorization, department personnel may authorize or enable the registration of students who:
- want to inquire or challenge taking a course without the necessary prerequisite(s)
- have a major/non-major restriction – “600 & 700” sections that are inclusive or exclusive
- have other course-related restrictions – “500” sections that need “special permission”
- seek entry into closed courses, or cannot register due to lack of course availability
