Julian Wright

Julian Wright is beginning his eighteenth year as the Director of Recreational Sports at SUNY Cortland. Prior to that, Julian was Assistant Director of Recreational Sports at Mississippi State University in Starkville for twelve years. He earned an Associate in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts from Northeast Mississippi Community College in 1969 and BS and MS Degrees in Health, Physical Education and Recreation, from Mississippi State University in 1971 and 1972 respectively. From 1972 until 1979, Julian taught and coached in the public school system in the State of Mississippi.

Julian is originally from Burnsville, Mississippi and currently resides in Cortland with his wife Jean and their two sons, Brett and Craig. His daughter Julie and her family (husband Chris and son Joshua) currently reside in Florence, Alabama.  


Louise Mahar

Louise Mahar is beginning her twelfth year as Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Fitness at SUNY Cortland. Prior to that, Louise was the Recreation and Fitness Director at Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont for six years. She earned a BS Degree in Health Science at Johnson State College and an MS Degree in Exercise Physiology/Fitness from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Louise is a Certified Health and Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Louise also teaches Yoga at the college and is a level 3 Yogafit Instructor. Louise is originally from Bradford, Vermont and currently resides in Cortland with her husband Buddy and their two sons, P.J. (age 14) and Eamonn (age 13). When she is not working, Louise enjoys running, weight training, yoga and gardening, as well as dabbling in sport and nature photography.


 

 

Matt Nuesell

Matt Nuesell is beginning his first year as the Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs. For the past two years, Matt worked as the Graduate Assistant for Sport Clubs at SUNY Cortland while earning a Masters degree in Environmental and Outdoor Education. In 2006, Matt joined the Recreational Sports staff after working for three years as an athletic trainer and adjunct professor of athletic training at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. Matt earned his first Masters degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Sport Psychology from Ithaca College in 2003 while completing a graduate assistantship in athletic training at Cornell University. He earned his BS in Athletic Training from SUNY Cortland in the spring of 2001. Additionally, Matt has been an NATA certified athletic trainer for 7 years and holds an instructor's certification from the American Red Cross.

Melanie Kornblatt

Melanie Kornblatt is a second year Graduate Assistant for Fitness. She graduated from SUNY Cortland with an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology/Fitness Development and is currently getting her Masters degree in exercise science. Melanie is an AFAA certified personal trainer and has also competed in two figure competitions. Outside of work, Melanie loves to work out and watch the New York Yankees. She is grateful to be a part of the Recreational Sports staff here at SUNY Cortland and is looking forward to another fantastic year as the GA for fitness.


Sara Cavanaugh

Sara Cavanaugh is a first year Graduate Assistant for Intramural Sports. She graduated from SUNY Cortland with a degree in Sport Management and will be getting her Masters degree in Outdoor Recreation. Sara works as an instructor at a nature camp during her summers where she is an instructor for 11-14 year olds. Last summer she worked as an intern for ESPN, working in the marketing department. Sara also played 4 years of basketball here at SUNY Cortland.


Jen Cotton

Jennifer Cotton is beginning her first year as the Graduate Assistant for Facilities and Aquatics. In 1999, she graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in Sport Management. While at Ithaca, Jennifer played on the Ithaca women's basketball team. Previously, she worked for over three years at Hayden Recreation Centre in Lexington, MA as an Aquatics Director and for the same amount of time as the Assistant Fitness and Sports Director at the Burbank YMCA in Reading, MA. Jennifer is pursuing a Masters degree in Recreation Management.


 

Megan Wagner

Megan Wagner is beginning her first year as a Graduate Assistant for Sport Clubs. She is currently a graduate student at SUNY Cortland working toward earning her MS in Sports Management.  In 2006, Megan received her BA in Communications Studies with a concentration in Journalism from SUNY Cortland. She is very excited to be working with the Recreational Sports Department.
