The SUNY Cortland Physical Education Department is proud to offer a diverse set of programs that meet the needs of both traditional and adult students. We offer three programs that are either residency based or online (with a short on-campus requirement) that culminates in an MSED degree. Which program is right for you?

Students must take PED 610 and PED 611 before applying for candidacy and should apply for candidacy as soon as they are eligible. Application for the degree should be at the beginning of the final course requirements. A maximum of six approved graduate credit hours may be transferred. Students may take up to nine credit hours of electives outside of physical education. All electives must be approved by the coordinator of graduate programs in physical education.

Admission Requirements:

In addition to meeting the requirements for admission to a degree program stated in the this catalog, the applicant for enrollment in the program leading to a M.S.Ed. in Physical Education should submit the following:

  1. A SUNY Cortland Teacher Education Program application.
  2. An application for admission to graduate study along with the $65 application fee.
  3.  A current teaching certificate in physical education.
  4. Official transcripts documenting a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a physical education teacher certification program.
  5. A minimum of a 2.5 overall undergraduate grade point average.
  6. Letter of application.
  7. A resume, which must include the contact information for three references. One of those contacts must be a public school employee.
