-Retanet by the Latin American & Iberian Institute at the University of New Mexico is for teachers interested in teaching about the Americas. This site contains several databases of lesson plans, resources, teacher partners, links to embassies and more.

-The Language Institute at the University of Sussex lists a collection of EFL - French - Spanish - German - Italian - Russian - Japanese - Chinese - Less Commonly Taught Languages resources.

-Take a look at the VCU Trail Guide to International Sites and Language Resources by Robert Godwin-Jones at Virginia Commonwealth University.

-The Yamada Language Center is a site for language study at the University of Oregon with guides for more than 140 languages.

-The Linguistic Funland TESL includes everything from mailing & discussion lists, web sites, activities for ESL students, and study programs, to cultural things that students and teachers of ESL might enjoy.

-Dave's ESL Cafe by Dave Sperling is a very popular ESL resource.

-Breaking News English by Sean Banville offers daily English lessons using current events.

-The Linguist List: ESL/EFL Computer Resources has sections of links for students and for teachers.

-The ESL Teachers Board is a large collection of resources for ESL teachers.

-Linda Thalman's VOLTERRE-FRsite for English and French Language Resources is a member of the ESLoop.  It's a great place to find EFL/ESL and French as a foreign language information. Linda's Business English page conatains a list of useful links.

-The ACTFL, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, has a very useful page, including links to other professional organizations. You can find the online ACTFL National Standards Executive Summary as well as the ACTFL Revised Proficiency Guidelines for Speaking and Writing.

-The New Visions in Foreign Language Education project is supported by ACTFL and the National K-12 Foreign Language Resource Center at Iowa State University.

-Tech Help at Colby college's language resource center is an extensive site for Mac and PC users who need to type foreign characters.  It includes links for references for non-Roman character sets as well as Roman.

-The ADFL is the Association of Departments of Foreign Languages. The ADFL Bulletin has a complete online archive for member departments only.

-The Advanced Placement Program : AP Central site includes information for teachers about AP and has links to information about discussion groups for AP teachers of several languages.

-The ALAA, Applied Linguistics Association of Australia now has a WWW site maintained by Peter White.

-The ATA, American Translators Association is of interest to language teachers working in translation services.

-The Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers.

-The CAL - Center for the Applied Linguistics home page.  Also found here is Ñandutí, the Early Foreign Language page, with lots of information about FLES.

-CALICO, the Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium, is a professional organization that serves a membership involved in both education and high technology.

-CIEE, the Council on International Educational Exchange, is "a nonprofit, nongovernmental, educational organization founded in 1947 with the mission of developing educational exchanges and fostering international understanding."

-Developing Educational Standards is an annotated listing with links to standards and frameworks from many US states and Canada.

-EUROCALL is the European Association for Computer Assisted Language Learning.

-The ERIC, Educational Resources Information Center, database site is an important resource for FL teachers. Note that the ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages and Linguistics page no longer exists.

-Executive Planet, international business culture, etiquette, customs, protocol. Good advice on cultural differences covering a wide variety of countries.

-Fairfax County Public Schools K-12 Foerign Language site includes well organized teacher materials and links for various languages.

-The Foreign Language Multimedia Software Project at the University of Hawaii National Foreign Language Resource Center offers an extensive listing of multimedia software, CDs, and Web resources along with online evaluations.

-Ethnologue: Languages of the World : information from the Ethnologue database.

-The The Instant Access Treasure Chest: The FL Teacher's guide to Learning Disabilities  was created by Sonja Moore at Virginia Commonwealth University.

-Foreign Language Acquisition: LD in Depth is located at Learning Disabilities Online.

-IALLT, the International Association of Language Learning Technology, can help FL teachers with all technical aspects of Language Labs.

-IECC, the Intercultural E-Mail Classroom Connections, is the place to go to find out about using e-mail in classroom projects, to get ideas, and to find partner classrooms.

-The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) is a great tool for finding detailed information about all sorts of films from around the world.

-The Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL) and the National Council for Languages and International Studies (NCLIS) are a good source of ideas on FL lobbying efforts.

-The Languages Across the Curriculum page at Brown University is the place to go for any LAC information.

-Language-Learning.net language course finder is a searchable directory that will help locate language courses all over the world.

-The Language Learning Technology International Discussion Forum (LLTI) is the place to go for information about technology and language learning. You can search the immensely valuable LLTI List Archives where you are likely to find the answer to most technology related questions for FL teachers.

-NCSSFL, The National Council of State Supervisors of Foreign Languages, home page includes state reports by state.

-NECTFL, The Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages assists language teachers at all academic levels and enhances the status of languages and language teaching in the eyes of the American public.

-The Foreign Language Test Database, includes information on a large selection of tests. The database is maintained by the National Capital Language Resource Center, a joint project of Georgetown University, The George Washington University, and the Center for Applied Linguistics.

-NNELL, the National Network for Early Language Learning.

-The National Registration Center for Study Abroad (NRCSA) helps students looking for "Intercultural and Foreign Language Immersion Programs Around the World."

-SCOLA's Home Page includes access to the schedules for SCOLA one and two.

-Les Pages Jaunes (France Telecom service) is the France télécom free online telephone directory including both yellow pages and white pages.

- France Pratique is a very rich source of practical information about contemporary France. Culture, education, travel, law, family, social security, housing, work, etc.

-AdmiNet : the French connection was developed by Christian Scherer of the French Ministry of Industry and by the Ecole des Mines de Paris. Its purpose is to provide free access to public information.

-Marie Ponterio's Civilisation française online teaching modules include original images, audio cues, and digital videos for lessons on a wide range of topics: cuisine, culture, social change, school, economy, Europe, holidays, family life, housing, history, religion, social security, symbols, transportation, vacation. A "voyage virtuel" uses an interactive map of France to provide information, images, and links for cities and regions throughout France.

-Janice Paulsen's Quartier français du village planétaire is so well organized that it is one of the most useful sites around.  For example, take a look at the Musées et Expositions Virtuelles.

-Pete Jones shares cooperative learning projects in cooperative learning in the French class.

-Michael Lastinger's les Saucissons chauds links to a great variety of pages of interest to students of French civilization.

-Musée Virtuel du Canada .

-The TV5 site , the international Francophone television channel in Canada, includes the schedule as well as information about programming and aides for French teachers.

-Radio France includes France Info (Flash, Journal, and Live), France Inter, France Culture, France Bleu, etc. via RealAudio or Media Player.

-Radio France Internationale provides online audio of news updates every 3 hours on France Info Express in addition to other RFI radio services (chroniques & magasines).

-Centre des monuments nationaux is a fantastic site about monuments all over France. Great info, great photos.

-Paris Interactive is a multimedia tour of the City of Lights.

-The official site of Le Louvre includes a virtual reality tour and a presentation of some of the works in the collection.

-This Louvre site includes opening times and a floor plan in addition to photos of the art.

-La Page de l'Hexagone prepared by Andrée Grandjean-Levy at Cornell University has many links to French resources for teachers and students.

-Premiers pas sur Internet These "first steps on the Internet" are just right for kids.

-Internet pour les momes - comptines has a large number of children's songs.

-Comptines pour l'école maternelle has a variety of songs and provides partial audio for some of them.

-L'Atlas national du Canada en ligne offers a variety of on-line maps of Canada illustrating aspects of Canadian geography.

-The Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc prehistoric cave paintings, discovered in December 1994 in the Ardèche region of France, were put on-line on January 24, 1995 by the French Ministry of Culture! This web page displays photographs taken in the caves and includes a text describing the site. It was one of the earliest web sites that sparked the interest of French teachers around the world. See as well the Lascaux cave site.

-Eric Ranguin's Histoire : Le Cyber-Guide des sites historiques is an excellent historical site including sections on PREHISTOIRE ET ANTIQUITE - MOYEN AGE ET RENAISSANCE - XVIIe, XVIIIe et XIXe - XXe - METHODOLOGIE - NOUVELLE FRANCE, CANADA, ACADIE ET QUEBEC.

-Le Site de l' encyclopédie QUID includes up-to-date information and statistics on everything French. Also see l'INSEE for statistics about France.
