Promoting News and Campus Events at SUNY Cortland

The Bulletin

Published biweekly for most of the calendar year, The Bulletin contains announcements, news reports and notices of campus events. The publication is distributed on campus to faculty, staff and students. Information received is also used for the SUNY Cortland weekly calendar of events in the Cortland Standard and for the Campus Visual Messaging System.

Deadline: A week prior to The Bulletin publication date.

How to Submit: Articles of more than 50 words should be submitted in Microsoft Word format by e-mail to bulletin@cortland.edu.

Campus Visual Messaging System

The College has installed flat screen informational panels at several locations around campus — Old Main, Corey Union, Park Center, Sperry Center and the Service Group building. The purpose of the screens is to convey up-to-date emergency, safety and weather information, as well information regarding upcoming cultural, intellectual and sporting events of campus-wide interest.

Deadline: At least 48 hours prior to the event, although earlier notice will guarantee greater exposure.

How to Submit: Information should be sent electronically by e-mail to Peter D. Koryzno, public relations director, at pete.koryzno@cortland.edu. The title of the event, who is speaking, presenting, performing, etc., when and where the event is taking place, an admission charge if applicable, and who is sponsoring the event should be included.

Columns

Information regarding SUNY Cortland’s 57,000-plus alumni appears three times a year in Columns, the official publication of the Alumni Affairs Office.

Deadline: Columns is published in March, July and October of each year. The copy deadline is six weeks prior to each publication.

How to Submit: Updates on alumni, for example job promotions, weddings, births, deaths, feature stories in other publications, awards and honors, should be e-mailed to alumni@cortland.edu. Suggestions for feature articles on SUNY Cortland alumni should be directed to Peter Koryzno, Columns editor, at pete.koryzno@cortland.edu, or to Jennifer Wilson, Columns assistant editor, at jennifer.wilson@cortland.edu.

Cortland Standard
Weekly Calendar of Events

Each Saturday during the fall and spring semesters, the College runs a calendar on page two of the Cortland Standard, in which it lists cultural, sporting and intellectual events open to the general public that are taking place on campus during the upcoming week.

Deadline: Two weeks prior to the event

How to Submit: Information should be sent electronically by e-mail to: bulletin@cortland.edu and to publicrelations@cortland.edu. The title of the event, who is speaking, presenting, performing, etc., when and where the event is taking place, an admission charge if applicable, and who is sponsoring the event should be included.

News Releases

The Public Relations Office writes, edits and distributes media releases about SUNY Cortland newsworthy subject matter; intellectual, cultural and intercollegiate sporting events; and significant accomplishments of College faculty, staff and students. The releases are disseminated to WSUC-FM, the Dragon Chronicle, the Cortland Standard, area radio stations, regional print and broadcast media, and to designated media outlets throughout New York State and the nation. The information is also used for the SUNY Cortland News Web site, The Bulletin, Columns and the campus visual messaging system.

Deadline: Information and background materials regarding the upcoming event or award earned must be received by the Public Relations Office ideally two-to-three weeks before but no later than a week prior to the event or, in the case of professional accolades and accomplishments, as soon as possible following notification of the award.

How to Submit: The information should be e-mailed to Peter D. Koryzno, director of public relations, at pete.koryzno@cortland.edu or to Jennifer Wilson, assistant director of public relations, at jennifer.wilson@cortland.edu. Speakers Bureau and Campus Experts

The Public Relations Office coordinates external groups looking for a faculty or staff member as a possible speaker or to provide expertise in a given area.

Deadline: As much advance time as possible should be allowed to secure and schedule the speaker and/or expert.

How to Submit: Requests for assistance should be directed to the Public Relations Office at (607) 753-2232 or by
