Content Management System (CMS) FAQ
What is a CMS?
A CMS is a Web application that offers campus community members an easy, efficient and consistent way to create, update, publish and archive information on the Web.
The CMS makes it possible for almost anyone to easily manage web content without knowing HTML (hyper-text mark-up language) or programs such as Dreamweaver, GoLive and FrontPage.
Is it easy?
Yes. With very basic training you will be able to edit your pages in a simple browser-based editor that's similar to Microsoft Word. See image
When will I receive training?
Training for users will begin at the end of the summer. The calendar of classes will be posted and you may sign up at your convenience.
When will we start using it?
The CMS will be installed over the summer. Department and office sites will be moved from the current Web server to the new CMS gradually. Department and office heads will be informed of the transition before it takes place.
What if I already have Dreamweaver, GoLive or FrontPage installed on my computer?
Because the dotCMS editor is browser based, you will be able to edit your pages from any computer connected to the Internet. Also, you'll never have to be concerned about software upgrades or compatibility issues.
There may be opportunities for you to use your existing software, but for the sake of uniformity, usability and accessibility, you will need to use the CMS.
