Overview
The COR 101 Symposium is a final event held in December that features the work of the COR 101 Teaching Assistants. Teaching Assistants develop a poster presentation that reflects the work they accomplished throughout the semester. The entire campus community is invited to attend the event to gain a sense of the variety of topics covered in COR 101 and to recognize the work of our teaching assistants. Posters include a summary or example of a lesson / activity that the teaching assistant helped facilitate in class. In addition, the poster represents how the TA served as a mentor for students and the leadership displayed in the classroom.
Poster presentations are a unique way for assistants to begin to think critically about their experience as a personal, academic, and career achievement. The poster presentation includes material that was integrated into the class and reflects greater personal awareness as a result of working with first-year students.

Guidelines for Instructors and Teaching Assistants
Elements of the Teaching Assistant Poster:
- Knowledge of first-year student transition
- What topic or COR 101 theme did the TA facilitate in class?
- Why was the topic important to facilitate?
- How did the class respond?
- What methods of teaching were helpful in engaging students about the topic?
- Personal reflection and critical thinking
- The poster offers the TA an opportunity to reflect on why the topic was important.
- How has the experience impacted the TA?
- What did the TA learn about them self as a professional and an academic?
- Creativity and self-expression
- The poster should help communicate clearly and creatively the Teaching Assistant's topic.
- How does your poster reflect the TA's work in the class?
- Poster elements should help the viewer understand the topic. Elements can include: pictures, testimonials, sample activities, etc.
