Action on Campus

Student PlayEven on weekends, you’ll find lots of people on campus. Lecture series and events celebrate Black History Month, International Week and Women’s History Month. And you can tune in on concerts by the Choral Union, the College Singers or the College-Community Orchestra. Art exhibitions at the Dowd Fine Arts Gallery and the Campus Artists and Lecture Series (CALS) enrich your cultural life.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be SUNY Cortland without recreation options. Join a thousand students a day who use our fitness facilities in Van Hoesen Hall (Tomik) and Park Center (Woods). Or sign up for any of more than 55 intramural sports ranging from basketball, baseball and tennis to swimming and volleyball. Club sports include everything from baseball, basketball and cycling to dance, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, handball, rugby, soccer, volleyball, skiing, snowboarding and tae kwon do.

Whatever you choose to do, we’ve got what it takes to help you
make the most of your moments at SUNY Cortland.

Amped-up Athletics

Baseball victorySome will say victory on the playing field happens when the final buzzer sounds and the final score is tallied.

At SUNY Cortland, we define victory in athletics quite a bit differently. It happens when the game starts, and our student-athletes look into each other’s eyes. That’s when they know that, regardless of the outcome, the real triumph comes in each and every moment they compete together.

And our definition of victory has resulted in more than 20 Division III national championships in six different sports. SUNY Cortland Red Dragon athletic teams are proud members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). With 25 intercollegiate teams for men and women, the Red Dragons have achieved a history of success, with multiple team championships at the national level and more than 80 individual national titles, including at least one in each of the last 20 years.

Fred Holloway Field (soccer), Dragon Field (softball), 22 hard-surfaced tennis courts, and additional fields for practice, club sports and intramurals.
