Congratulations on your acceptance to SUNY Cortland! We encourage you to bookmark this page as a reference as you progress toward the academic semester. We hope the following links and information will help you finalize plans to join the SUNY Cortland community.

Step 1 - Submit your tuition and room deposits.
A tuition and room deposit is required when you are accepted. The deposits secure a place in the entering class and a residence hall room for a specific semester.
For fall semester applicants, the $50 tuition and $150 room deposits are due May 1. Fall applicants accepted after April 1 will have 30 days from the date of the acceptance letter to submit the deposits. Spring semester applicants must submit deposits within 30 days of the date of the acceptance letter. Deposits are not refundable beyond the deposit due date. Billing and Payment Information
Deposit fees are waived for Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) candidates.
Step 2 - Visit the campus (again).
We offer a variety of programs that allow you to experience our students, faculty, staff and campus facilities firsthand. Make plans now to attend one of our many visitation options we are offering.
Step 3 - Apply for financial aid.
Submit the FAFSA for need-based federal and college based grants, work-study and loans. Students who have filed their FAFSA by March 1 will receive priority for campus-based federal funding. SUNY Cortland's FAFSA code is 002843.
We encourage you to consult with our Financial Advisement Office on opportunities for funding support and assistance with the financial aid process.
Step 4 - Research scholarship opportunities.
For new students no separate application is needed for scholarship consideration. Students that are awarded scholarships will be notified with their acceptance letter. SUNY Cortland offers various scholarships for both incoming and returning students.
Step 5 - Choose your campus housing.
Housing assignments are based on the date the room deposit is received, the date the online housing preference form is submitted, and whether special-interest housing is indicated on the online housing preference form.

May 5, 2008 - Housing packets mailed to new students with detailed housing information.
May 31, 2008 - Housing preference forms submitted to the Residential Services Office via Banner Web. If not completed student will not be housed.
July 31, 2008 - Students receive hall assignment letters which includes name, address and phone number of roommate.
Aug. 22, 2008 - Move-in day for all freshmen and transfer students who attended summer orientation.
Step 6 - Complete your health forms.
After you pay your deposit, you will receive a Pre-Admissions Health History and Immunization Form, which must be completed by you and your health care provider and returned to the Student Health Service Office as soon as it is completed or no later than August 1. All full-time undergraduate students are required to have adequate health insurance coverage. Students who are already covered may fill out the online waiver. More information can be found at the Student Accounts website.
Step 7 - Attend orientation and register for your classes.
The Advisement and Transition Office coordinates Orientation for all new first-year students. These sessions are designed to introduce you to services and programs vital to a successful transition to SUNY Cortland’s community. The Orientation program aims to provide a structured and holistic introduction to the collegiate environment for both parents and students.
We offer several orientation sessions for first-year students during the month of July. All of the first year orientation programs include an overnight stay. Information about the session will be mailed to you beginning in mid-May or after you have paid your admissions deposit. Two one-day orientation programs are offered in January for students entering during the spring semester.
New students meet with their academic advisor and register for classes during the Orientation Session (freshmen) or Transfer Transition Seminar (transfers). You will leave the program with a schedule. If you need to adjust your schedule after the program, you can do so during the drop/add period which takes place during the first week of classes.
Step 8 - Submit final high school transcripts.
Do we have all of your high school and college transcripts yet? Please make sure you forward your final transcripts to SUNY Cortland, Admissions Office, P.O. Box 2000, Cortland, NY 13045.
Note: Final transcripts should clearly identify date of graduation (if applicable).
Step 9 -Receive college credit for advanced courses taken while in high school.
Credit for Advance Placement, IB, CLEP, College Courses and other proficiency credit is awarded following receipt of your official Advance Placement or other proficiency transcript. We have established an advancement placement program to serve students who seek recognition for achievement acquired outside the conventional college classroom.
Advance Placement scores must be sent directly from the College Board to SUNY Cortland. To see how the scores translate with regard to transfer credit at SUNY Cortland see the Equivalency Charts found on the Admissions web site.
Step 10 - Begin considering what extracurricular activities appeal to you.
SUNY Cortland has 25 varsity intercollegiate athletic teams (14 women's, 11 men's) that compete on the NCAA Division III level. The Red Dragons have won 21 national team titles. More than 90 Cortland student-athletes have captured individual national championships. We also have a strong Recreational Sports Program that includes sports clubs, intramural sports and club recreation. There are outdoor and indoor recreation opportunities including swimming, rock wall climbing, ice skating, and basketball. Fitness facilities and aerobic/dance studios are also available.
You may also want to consider joining one or more of our 100 student clubs and activities.
Step 11 - Order your textbooks and other school supplies, including computers.

Simplify your life and avoid the hassles, crowds and lines. Let the College Store do the work for you by pre-packing your textbooks. They'll be ready and waiting for you when you arrive on campus.
Step 12 - Familiarize yourself with how the SUNY Cortland ID Cards work.
Your SUNY Cortland ID Card card has many uses. Your ID will allow you to purchase
meals, make copies on a
campus printer or copier, do
you laundry and gives you
access to
your residence hall.
Your ID picture will be taken at orientation. The fee for the card is included in your orientation fee.
Your ID Card will be available for you to pick up at Neubig Hall on move-in day. Please remember to bring a form of ID when you pick it up.
Step 13 - Move into your home away from home.
Detailed move-in instructions will be provided in early August. Move-in day is August 22, 2008.
Step 14 - Participate in the Welcome Week activities.
A variety of programs are offered the first week of school to acquaint you with the campus and activities available to you throughout the year.
Step 15 - Begin your academic career at SUNY Cortland.
Attend the Academic Convocation. Check out the Academic Calendar for other important dates and events. Fall 2008 Classes begin August 25, 2008.
